Schleswig-Holstein and Israel
The North German federal state is celebrating German-Israeli relations.
The city of Norderstedt in south Schleswig-Holstein is honouring 50 years of diplomatic relations between Germany and Israel – with a special reception and a concert. Minister President Torsten Albig emphasised the importance of the link between the two countries, saying: “The value of German-Israeli cooperation can simply not be over-estimated. The historical collaboration is something we must repeatedly fill with life anew.”
A new honorary post that Albig holds is a prime example of how this cooperation is being infused with life at present. On 6 November the Minister President was elected Second Chairman of Jerusalem Foundation Deutschland. The foundation supports institutions and projects destined to benefit all the citizens of Jerusalem. Its objective is to break down cultural barriers between Christians, Jews and Muslims. The foundation was established in 1966 by the legendary Mayor of Jerusalem, Teddy Kollek.
